Many of the BMX cycling competitors began cycling during their childhood. They never realized that someday they will be BMX cyclist. As young cyclists, they began competing with other cyclists in the neighborhood by building ramps in the backyard and performing daring leaps while on a bike. They try to make more daring leaps that took them high on the air while onlookers watched and cheered.
The Olympic games committee has recognized BMX cycling competitions as part of competitive sports. The 2008 Olympics marked the debut of BMX Cycling Competition. The BMX racing cyclists endured many prequalifying competitions just to get into the Olympic team. They must have the skill and daring attitude. Pressure was intense as the BMX cyclists were subjected intimidationa nd aggression while they competed against each other.It wasn’t only the physical and mental preparation that a cyclist prepared for. Another important thing of course, was the equipment. After all, it’s always the cyclist and his bike that count in any cycling competition.
The Olympic 2008 BMX Cycling Competition concluded last August 22,2008. The first Olympic medalists for this event in the Men’s category were Latvian STROMBERGS,Maris (36.190)who got the Gold, and two American cyclists DAY,Mike (36.606) and ROBINSON, Donny (36.972)finished second and third.
In the women’s category, French CHAUSSON Anne-Caroline (35.976)got the Gold, another French lady le CORGUILLE, Laetitia (38.042)finished secon and got Silver, and American KINTNER,Jill (38.674) garnered the Bronze medal.
