When did mountain biking start? Who started it as a kind of sports?
Several versions of its origin have spread through the century.
In 1896, the Buffalo Soldiers customized bikes to carry gear over the rough and tough terrain. Their mission as an infantry was to test the bikes which the military will use through the toughand rough terrains. In August of 1896, they used the bike over the course of 800 miles.
However betwen the years 1951 and 1956, a group of 20 young bikrs from paris who called themselves Velo Cross Club of France first started a sport which is quite similar to modern- day mountain biking.
In the USA, a guy named John Finley Scott, was known to be the first mountain biker. He was the one who constructed what he called a “Woodsie Bike”, using a diamond frame, balloon tires, flat handle bars, and cantilever brakes. This was in 1953. Unfortunately, during those times, not many recognized biking as a sports or recreation.
Nowadays, many believed that mountain biking is originally began in Northern California. Though many areas claim to be the first community for mountain biking, Marin County is the most popular.
